I am about to take this journey into the unknown world (unknown to me) in blogging. I want to talk about all kinds of things that randomly come into my mind.
The first thing that comes to mind is the lack of interest of most of our citizens in how we treat our immigrants that are here legally opposed to those that are here illegally. I have a daughter-in-law that came here legally with a working visa, paid thousands of dollars getting a lawyer, buying the forms, going through the interviews, getting her green card and passport, but when she leaves the country and then tries to re-enter she is pulled aside EVERY time and is made to feel like a criminal. She is actually frightened to leave because she knows that when she returns she will have to go though that whole process again.
Then when you consider how we allow the illegal emigrants to obtain all kinds of services here in the United States and in a few states they are not even required to show proof of residency to get a drivers license, which when they have the drivers license it is considered a form of identification on which they can obtain other forms of identification. Like in the State of Washington, they don't have to prove that they are here legally or that they actually live here in Washington. What is all that about?
And what about job applicants? Why is it that most jobs listed ask for the applicants to be bilingual? Is this the United States, is this an english speaking country? Yes it is a nice idea to be able to speak other languages, but should it be a requirement?
When you go to a foreign country do they have all the signs in English as well as their own language? I went to Mexico last year, had a wonderful time but.....I didn't see any signs in english after I left the border. When I went to the stores they didn't have people there that were bilingual just for my convenience.
What do you think? What's on your mind?
